Christianity is backwards and brainwashed in the United States thanks to the special relationship it forged with the Republican party in the early 80s. The history of how that partnership developed is well-known.
Here’s the rub. God makes it abundantly clear through the Prophets of the Hebrew Scriptures, through Jesus and through many New Testament writers like James that we are to defend the weak and the oppressed. We are to speak up for those with no voice. We are to care for the poor, the sick, the homeless, the hungry, the oppressed, the incarcerated, and basically anyone who lacks fundamental necessities.
James, brother of Jesus, said this: “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?” (James 2)
Here’s what James had to say about “The Job Creators” of his time: “Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.” (James 5)
Contrary to what the brainwashed “Christian” masses will incessantly cry, none of this has anything whatsoever to do with the “unborn.” It is quite obvious all these instructions refer to those already born.
As a country we are about to throw all of the people God demanded we protect under the bus. The programs these people rely on to survive are about to be handed to Wall Street or gutted and decimated. All of this will be thanks to Republican party policy. We about to hand rich oppressors big rewards and tell the least of these they are on their own.
If anything ever brings the wrath of God down on our nation it will be this. We’ve been warned by history so many times, and yet we always seem to re-build the golden calf.
Have mercy on us all, Lord. Lead us out of this mess we’ve created for ourselves. Please don’t let us have to learn the hard way again.
